SEMINAR DESCRIPTION:
Michigan is currently undertaking a process to update its commercial and residential energy codes. The current commercial energy code proposal from the Michigan Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) is to adopt provisions of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC 2021) along with ASHRAE 90.1 (2019). This six hour program will present significant changes to the current Michigan Energy Code which will occur once the new code is adopted. The program will address requirements for building envelope, lighting, HVAC, submittals, verification and commissioning, as well as administrative requirements.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- To develop an understanding of the technical provisions of the proposed Michigan Commercial Energy Code.
- To develop an understanding of the verification and commissioning requirements in the code.
- To develop an understanding of the code submittal and documentation requirements.
- To develop an understanding of how provisions of IECC 2021 and ASHRAE 90.1 (2019) along with Michigan adoption language and amendments interact to form the Michigan.
- Energy Code for Commercial Buildings.
SPEAKER INFORMATION
Tim Mrozowski, AIA, LEED AP
Tim Mrozowski, is a practicing architect and sole proprietor since 1981. He retired in 2018, as Professor and Program Director of the Construction Management Program, in the School of Planning, Design and Construction at Michigan State University (MSU). At MSU, his outreach activities focused on energy codes, sustainability, and building energy assessments.
He currently is an energy assessment leader for the Industrial Assessment Center at MSU, which is funded by US Department of Energy (DOE) and is a proposal reviewer for the Building Technologies Office of DOE. He is a member of the Michigan Energy Code Collaborative, AIA Detroit Chapter Building Codes and Regulations Committee, AIA MidMichigan, Michigan AIA, AIA and chairs the East Lansing Building Board of Appeals.
Sonya M. Pouncy, CEM, LEED-AP, CMVP
Sonya M. Pouncy, has 20+ years of experience in the HVAC industry. She has worked in product development, equipment sales, energy optimization, project delivery, and building performance management. For fun, she has been providing ASHRAE 90.1 training since 2006.
Sonya is a Past President of the Detroit Chapter of ASHRAE and remains active on various local and international committees. She also serves on the Michigan Energy Codes Compliance Collaborative and recently led a team in developing a series of energy code compliance aids.
Sonya is the Principal of Building Vitals, a consulting firm that helps facility managers bridge the gap between where their building energy performance is and where they want it to be.
