About this Event

St Mary's Church will be having their annual Light Party on Thursday 31st October 2024 form 5:30pm-7pm. This event is free and for children who are primary aged (4-11 years old). There will be crafts, games, popcorn, face painting, music, candy floss and more. Children can also dress up for this event, all we ask is that customes do not offend parents or children. Tickets are free but places are limited, so do sign your child/children up as soon as possible.

What is a 'Light Party'?

As a church we believe that we should be a light (positive influence) to everybody, including those in our local community. We believe this, because this is the example Jesus has set before us and requires of us as Christians.

Since our Light Party is open to children and families of all backgrounds and religions, we always choose a theme that both religious and non-religious people can identify with. Last year, our theme was 'Films'. This year our theme will be 'Children's Books', as Children's stories are the place of endless possibilities, which allow young people to open their mind to wide horizons and generate new viewpoints. Children's books can also teach as important values such as self confidence, resilence and being a light through sharing and caring for others.

How many places are avaliable at the Light Party?

There are 70 places avaliable at our Light Party, these places are for children only. So to reserve their place, please sign up as soon as possible. Adults do not need to reserve their places, these places are for children only. Occasionally we will add more places, but this is not guaranteed.

Please note: you can book 4 children per family/group. We have done this so other families can reserve their tickets. Parents and guardians must also stay with their child throughout the event.

If you have booked a ticket but cannot make the party, then please cancel via eventbrite or contact Chloe (Event Organizer) at [email protected]

What is the layout/timeline of the Light Party?

The doors will open at 5:30pm, parents and guardians will have to show their tickets at the 'Sign In' desk. At this time your child/children will recieve a name badge and if you wish they can enter into the 'Guess the number of Sweets' competition, the winner will be revealed at the end of the event.

From 5:30pm-6:45pm, children and families can engage in games, crafts, face painting, dancing to music and more. During this time we will also have our mascots come and join the party. You can dance or take pictures with them.

At 6:45pm there will be a mini talk, we will announce the competition winner and there will be a musical performance. Afterwards the event will come to close and the children can collect their gift bags. During this time the volunteers will take packing up the craft and game tables.

Please note: We advise that you arrive on time to get the most out of this event.

Is there anything for parents/guardians?

Parents/ Guardians can help themselves to tea and coffee. If you are feeling peckish you can help yourself to free popcorn or candyfloss. There's also plenty of seating areas such as our church pews. If you have a buggy/ pram then there will be a place where you can put them. Please note: the church is not responsible for any lost items.

What happens if there's a problem or accident at the Light Party?

If you have a problem, accident or see any suspious behaviour at the Light Party, do speak to one of our many volunteers who will be wearing a blue volunteer lanyard. If you need to speak to senior member of staff or the event leader, then they will have a red volunteer lanyard. There will be trained first aider on site.

Do I have to pay for this event?

No, this event is free and open to childen of all backgrounds. However, if you do wish to donate then you can.
