About this Event
Welcome to Light in the Darkness!
Skyline Community Church presents "Light in the Darkness," a Christmas Eve service blending traditional carols with contemporary musical offerings in the church's hilltop sanctuary overlooking San Francisco Bay and the East Bay Regional Parks. The service features performances of Benjamin Britten's 'This Little Babe' and settings of traditional carols by composers Lloyd Larson and Abbie Bettnis, alongside readings that trace the Christmas narrative from ancient prophecy to the nativity.
The message of the evening includes a reflection on finding light in challenging times, particularly resonant with current global and local concerns. The service culminates in the traditional candlelight ceremony, where the congregation joins in singing 'Silent Night.' The evening's music program includes both instrumental and vocal pieces performed by local musicians, with special attention to the themes of hope, peace, and community building that are central to this progressive congregation's mission.
