About this Event

Light in Action: Samy’s Hands-On Lighting Experience is a unique opportunity for photographers, cinematographers, filmmakers, and content creators to get up close with some of the best lighting tools in the industry in a fully interactive, real-world environment.

Taking place in our new 4th Floor Event Space, this hands-on event will feature live demonstrations, creative shooting sets, and interactive lighting activations designed to let attendees experience the latest lighting technology in action. Whether you’re looking to sharpen your technical skills, test new gear, or explore creative lighting setups, this event is built to inspire and educate.

Attendees will have the chance to engage with gear and representatives from top lighting brands including: Astera, Godox, Godox LED, Nanlite, Nanlux, Profoto, Rosco, Westcott

This is more than just a gear event—it’s a chance to connect with a vibrant community of professional photographers, cinematographers, and content creators, exchange ideas, and discover new tools to elevate your work.

And to make the experience even better, we’ll also have an on-site barista with a full espresso bar serving lattes, cappuccinos, americanos, and more throughout the day.

Ian Spanier - 11am - "Strobe vs. Continuous Lighting; How do you Choose?" Join Westcott Top Pro Ian Spanier for a hands-on mini demo exploring one of biggest questions in photography: strobe vs. continuous light...how do you choose? Watch real-world examples of both lighting styles in action as Ian breaks down the key advantages and limitations of each. Whether you are just starting out or refining your craft, you'll walk away with a clearer understanding of which lighting approach best fits your style, workflow and creative vision.

George Simian - 1pm - "Backlighting with Strobe" Placing the strobe behind the dancer creates a strong rim of light that outlines the figure, separates it from the background, and directs attention to the shape and position of the body rather than surface detail. Because dance involves fast, continuous movement, a strobe with a short flash duration is essential to produce a fully sharp image. A dancer will perform and be photographed throughout, with immediate on-screen review of every frame so that the effect of each lighting decision is visible in real time. The process will be built up methodically, with variations in position, power, angle, and color explored along the way.

Rory Lewis - 3pm - Mastering Portrait Lighting: One, Two & Three Light Setups. In association with Godox

Join Rory Lewis for a focused, hands-on workshop exploring the foundations of cinematic portrait lighting. Learn how to create striking, professional images using simple one-light setups, then build confidently into two and three light configurationsWorking with industry-leading Godox equipment, Rory will demonstrate how to shape light, control contrast, and direct your subject to achieve powerful, character-driven portraits. A practical, no-nonsense session designed to elevate your lighting quickly and effectively.
