Welcome to the Lift the Ban re-launch celebration!
Join us at The Grand Theatre & Opera House Leeds as we kick off our city's renewed campaign for the right to work for people seeking asylum.
Currently in the UK, people who seek asylum from war and persecution are effectively banned from working while they wait for a decision on their claim, often for months on end, and even for many years. This is harmful to them and it is harmful to our society as a whole. Instead, we want people who seek sanctuary in the UK to rebuild their lives and be able to share their many talents and skills with us.
So, get ready to enjoy live music and poetry from Sanctuary Got Talents, delicious food from around the world, and learn about what people seeking asylum have to share with the UK, if only we'd let them. This in-person event will be a fantastic opportunity to hear from people affected by the ban, explore the alternatives to the current policy and raise our collective voice to call for change.
