Welcome to the sixth annual charity strongman contest, Lift For Lani 6. All proceeds will go to charity (charity will be announced soon). This is done to honor my daughter Noelani Tideman who passed in 2020. This is intended to be a strongman "fun run", appropriate for all levels and ages. We have had people as young as 4 and people in their 70s competing. All are welcome!Categories are the normal categories as well as two new ones. Categories with fewer than 3 people may be combined. The new categories are:
Complete newbie : Someone who has either never strength trained or is very new to strength training. This category will include a basic overview of how to do the event along with the event. Think of this category as signing up for a training day more so than a competition.
Lifter exploring the dark side: This is for people who may have a decent amount of experience lifting weights but not with strongman implements. Weights will be higher where appropriate, but set lower for things that require more technique.
The events are:
Big Bad John:
(Listen to the song big bad john by Jimmy Dean, this will make more sense). The goal is to hold a weight over your head for a full 60 seconds using an axle. The weight must be lifted from the ground. You choose the weight. Your score is the weight * the number of seconds you held the weight.
Deadlift progression:
This will be a series of 6 deadlifts, each increasing in weight. The deadlifts are:
Saxon Bar
Country crush DL implement
Axle Bar
Regular DL Bar
Trap Bar
Farmers handles Bar
Deadlifts can be taken in any order. Score is either the number of successful deadlifts or the time taken for all 6
Natural Stone Medley:
Athletes will be given a choice of two stones, with the heavier one giving more points. Points will be given for lifting the stone, lapping the stone or shouldering the stone.
Hercules Hold:
You stand there. You hold the handles. Don't let go. Suffer. Longest time wins.
Delivery Driver:
Start at one end with a wheelbarrow-like implement 50 feet away. Run to the wheelbarrow and start pushing. Every 10 feet load a different object into the sled. At the end, unload the implements. Points will be given for each object picked up and each object delivered.
