Celebrate National Pollinator Week 2026 at the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens with a family-friendly outdoor activity focused on the hidden relationship between butterflies and the plants they need to survive. This year’s theme, “Life on a Leaf: Celebrating Host Plants,” highlights the importance of native larval host plants—the plants where butterflies lay their eggs and where caterpillars feed as they grow.Inspired by the swallowtail butterfly family, Papilionidae, honored as the 2026 Pollinator of the Year, visitors will explore the gardens to learn how pollinators depend not only on flowers for nectar, but also on specific plants that support their full life cycle. Through guided observation, hands-on activities, and simple take-home conservation tips, participants will discover how planting and protecting native host plants can help butterflies, bees, moths, and other pollinators thrive.
Please note: The Centennial Museum will be closed; all activities will take place outdoors in the gardens.
