About this Event
WORKSHOP DATES: November 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd from 2-5pm
Taught by textile artist Sahar Steiner, all materials provided
This class takes you through the life cycle of sweaters. We will cover selecting sweaters to recycle, unraveling knitwear by hand, and designing our own crochet (or knit) colorwork hats. Along the way, we'll learn some darning and embroider tags for our projects. While we take apart sweaters to harvest their yarn, we'll go over how the fast fashion industry makes and discards clothing at an alarming rate. By recycling second-hand knitwear ourselves, we can keep clothing out of landfills, prevent synthetic clothing pollution, and keep our money far from sweatshop labor.
*Beginner knitting or crochet skills required*
Registration for this class includes the four sessions. Life happens and you might not make all of them- if you are unable to make it to any sessions you registered for, the class fee remains the same.
The queer quilting studio is located in a second-story walk-up, with no elevator. We have a cozy tea and coffee setup and you're welcome to bring your own snacks. Masking is required and KN95 masks are provided if you forget yours. Please arrive on time or a little early so we can make the most of each session.
