About this Event

The Life as Metaphor workshop is a sacred journey inviting participants to step into the beauty of their own stories and rediscover the divine spark of creativity within. Through Auto-Drama, a practice of creative exploration and performance, participants will move beyond barriers to creativity, transforming lived experiences into art that carries both personal truth and spiritual resonance.
Together, we will engage in interactive play, reflective writing, and contemplative exercises that reveal the metaphors life has been whispering all along. These metaphors—symbols of resilience, renewal, and connection to the sacred—will be given creative expression in a final offering, expressed through whichever medium you choose: music, dance, poetry, drama, photography, or wherever inspiration leads.
The workshop rests on the belief that creativity is more than an artistic act, it is a spiritual practice; all art is autobiographical, and every soul carries hidden gems within. It is never too late to transform your story into something beautiful and meaningful.

Life as Metaphor is led by Ron McClelland of Innovaré and sponsored by the Leighton Ford Initiative in Theology, the Arts, and Gospel Witness at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Innovaré is dedicated to nurturing people’s spiritual well-being by creating spaces where they can grow in faith, develop their creativity, and find rest, renewal, and inspiration through workshops, classes, and retreats.

Ron McClelland is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University Drama and The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. He is the founder of Innovaré and an instructor and mentor at The Wisdom Tree Collective School of Spiritual Direction in Tennessee, having previously served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Acting at UNC Charlotte. Ron is dedicated to cultivating the spiritual life, creative works of artists, and creative people from all walks of life.
