The Department of Philosophy’s Research Seminars series resumes on Wednesday 4 December Title: Life and Immanence

This seminar will comprise two back-to-back talks discussing the relation between the philosophical notions of life and immanence. Robert Farrugia will begin by tackling the issue of immanence within the broader phenomenological tradition and then focus on Michel Henry's specific understanding of life as self-appearing and the possibility of an immanent community. Niki Young will then go on to speak of Alphonso Lingis' understanding of life with a special emphasis on the difference between mundane states and disruptive, passionate experiences.
Bionote
Robert Farrugia is a casual philosophy lecturer at the University of Malta and teaches philosophy at St. Edward’s College. His main interests include phenomenology and existentialism, with particular attention to interiority, compassion, transformation, embodiment, and community.
Niki Young is a philosophy lecturer at the University of Malta. His philosophical interests centre around 20th and 21st Century Continental thought, with a special focus on incorporating 20th-century ideas into contemporary research fields.
