Join Holly Parker, Director of the Schiller Coastal Studies Center at Bowdoin, to learn about the marine research and education programs at the Center, as well as how they are working to build meaningful relationships within our community that work toward inclusive and just solutions for the future of our community and environment.Holly has served as director of Bowdoin College’s Schiller Coastal Studies Center since 2022, where she leads programs that connect marine science with the wider community and with partners working on sustainability challenges around the world. With nearly 25 years in education– spanning secondary schools, higher education, nonprofits, and the corporate sector– she has focused on cultivating sustainability literacy and creating learning pathways that help learners discover their passions and strengths. Inspired by her years in the maritime industry and a lifetime spent on and near the ocean, she is committed to fostering a sustainability-literate, engaged citizenry. She holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College, an M.Ed. from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Southern Maine.

These talks encourage participants to better understand our connection to the land and the place we call home.
