“Deliciously witty… There’s Only One Sin in Hollywood is a quintessential Hollywood novel and an LA classic for our times." —Laura Warrell, author of Sweet, Soft, Plenty, Rhythm
Join us for a special edition of Liberated Lit Book Club featuring acclaimed author, Rasheed Newson, in conversation about his novel There’s Only One Sin in Hollywood. Set in 1950s Hollywood, the book follows a backlot fixer navigating the hidden lives of Black actors in an industry shaped by secrecy, power, and performance.
Together, we’ll explore themes of identity, ambition, queerness, and the cost of belonging - both on and off the screen. This gathering will center thoughtful discussion, audience Q&A, and an opportunity to engage directly with Newson about the intersections of history, storytelling, and cultural memory.
Rasheed Newson is also the author of My Government Means to K*ll Me and a television writer and producer known for his work on Bel-Air, The Chi, The 100, and Narcos. He brings a unique perspective on storytelling across mediums, making this a rich and engaging conversation for readers, writers, and anyone interested in the stories that shape our understanding of the past and present.
