Clan Jade Falcon has abandoned the world of Zhongshan and its former inhabitants seek to liberate it of the vestiges of their control. You will either join the raiders working for the Pearl Dragon Mining Corporation or defend the holdings of the Great Eagle AgroWorks Union. Players will be assigned at random which side they will fight for and the victory points of all completed tracks will be tallied to determine the fate of Zhongshan. Time permitting, each player will play a total of three missions. In order to keep things interesting — against the normal rules of the Chaos Campaign — players may also swap opponents at the conclusion of each mission.I will provide sheets to record expenditures between missions. I will also bring several extra miniatures and record sheets for any new players who may lack their own tools; players just need to supply their own dice. Proxies are perfectly okay to bring, so long as the facing can be clearly determined, it roughly fits within a single hex on a mapsheet, and the player indicates which unit the proxy will be acting as at the beginning of a mission (it should also be notated on record sheets to avoid confusion).
Players should show up with a Scale 1 force, per the Chaos Campaign: Mercenaries rules. There will be no era or faction restrictions, but no experimental units, Battle/Omni/IndustrialMechs only, and no more than two 'Mechs per list. Lists should be built with 4/5 units only, with a BV ranging from 2,360 to 3,320. After choosing units, a single Gunnery and Piloting Skill promotion may be granted to a single or either unit. (For example, a single unit could be promoted from a 4/5 to a 3/4, or one unit could be promoted to 3/5 and the other to 4/4.)
All players will additionally have 32 BSP to spend on Battlefield Support or Assets, and for every 20 BV above or below 3,000, they start with 1 more or less BSP. BSP's may be spent and refunded before the start of each mission, allowing players to choose options which will be most beneficial to their objective. I will bring several copies of Battlefield Support/Asset cards with me, but players may have to supply their own tokens for any Battlefield Assets they may wish to use.
If both players agree before starting a mission, they may use any advanced or optional rules they wish. Otherwise, the BattleMech Manual will be the primary rulebook referenced, backed up by Total Warfare for any areas it does not cover in the standard rules. If both players do not agree to use any advanced rules, then they simply will not be used, and if rules conflicts come up that cannot be amicably resolved, the advanced rule will simply no longer be used for the remainder of that mission. Forced withdrawal and automatic ejection are the only two "optional" rules which will be in full effect, as well as front-loaded initiative.
In the event of an uneven number of players, two players will team up as Pearl Dragon and I will run a Scale 2 OpFor against them. The teamed up players will act on the same initiative, but will have to choose which unit will activate first between their forces. If players cannot agree on who should act, the player who has activated fewer units will act first, or they will simply roll off. To keep things fair, the OpFor will still only have a single Gunnery and Piloting Skill promotion and will only have 32 BSP (plus or minus any extra, depending on its BV). The OpFor will be a Jade Falcon Star that was left behind to garrison the world, on the side of Great Eagle.
