Help reclaim the history of the LGBTQ heroes of the resistance in World War II. You'll hear the heroic stories of how many in our community resisted fascism and ultimately, helped win the war. By learning the full stories, you'll be honoring the memory of Willem Arondeus, a Dutch artist and resistance fighter who wanted people after the war to know that "homosexuals are not cowards."

During our Zoom tour, you'll learn about the White Rose, the heroic group of college students who rose up in the heart of Nazi Germany, tried to convince the German people to stand up against the regime and were executed. The fact that the founders were gay somehow didn’t make it into the common story that was made into a feature film.

You'll also meet many more heroes during our historical Zoom tour, including:

  • Fredy Hirsch, a sports teacher who managed to teach and protect many children inside the Terezin concentration camp and even Auschwitz itself.
  • Willem Arondeus and Frieda Belinfante, who blew up the citizen ID registry in Amsterdam, preventing the Gestapo from checking people’s ID cards against the official Dutch records.
  • Gad Beck, the promiscuous, effeminate teen who led the largest resistance group in Berlin, using cunning and seduction to save the lives of dozens of Jews hidden in the middle of the Nazi capital.

Join us for this fascinating Zoom tour, presented by the highly entertaining, Professor Andrew Lear, founder of Oscar Wilde Tours, the gay history tour company, and Shady Ladies Tours, the woman's history tour company. Learn how these brave LGBTQ heroes stood up and fought tyranny in the most terrifying circumstances.
