About this Event
This LGBT+ History Month, at Stockroom we are exploring Stockport's LGBT+ stories. In particular, we are shining a light on our Isherwood Family Collection, part of the Local Herritage Library.
Christopher Isherwood was born in Stockport in 1904, and went on to become an early figure of the Gay Liberation movement.
A Single Man is one of Isherwood's best known works, published in 1964. The film is the directorial debut of fashion designer Tom Ford, and stars Colin Firth, who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of George Falconer, a gay British university professor living in Southern California in 1962.
