Leading Through the Storm: Crisis Communication for Community Leaders
A key staff member resigns unexpectedly.
A funding source falls through.
A board conflict becomes public.
The media calls.
In moments like these, leadership is no longer theoretical, it’s visible.
On March 26th, Leadership Frederick County Alumni are invited to a highly interactive workshop designed to help you respond with clarity, composure, and credibility when the pressure is on.
Facilitated by Jason Deater of the Mid-Atlantic Center for Emergency Management & Public Safety, this session goes beyond emergency management. It focuses on the real-life challenges leaders across nonprofits, businesses, and public agencies face often without warning.
You’ll leave with:
A clear framework for what to say and what not to say in high-stakes moments
Tools to align staff, boards, and stakeholders quickly
Strategies to communicate with empathy while maintaining authority
Practical response plans you can adapt immediately
Alumni will work in small breakout groups, tackling real-life crisis scenarios like sudden leadership departures, loss of funding, and even natural disasters. Each group will craft a response plan and share strategies with peers, ensuring practical takeaways you can bring back to your leadership role.
If you’re an LFC Alumni, don’t miss this opportunity to sharpen your crisis leadership skills, expand your perspective, and be better prepared for the unexpected.
Snacks will be provided. You must be an LFC Alumni to attend this event. No walk-ups will be permitted for this event, you must be registered to attend.
