About this Event

Lexia is an AI opera about artificial intelligence, climate catastrophe, and bio-adaptation. In a future version of America radically transformed by human-made ecological cataclysm, the main character, Lexia, wanders the barren terrain in search of her lost child, and bears witness to an extraordinary transformation underway for humanity: a spontaneous mutation that is causing human babies to be born with the physical characteristics of birds. Created and composed by Scott Deal, original story and libretto by Kat Mustatea and featuring soprano Tony Arnold as Lexia.

Lexia was created with assistance from the Indiana University Presidential Arts and Humanities Fellowship, the Tavel Arts and Technology Research Center, and the Indiana University Musician Machine Lab.
