Saturday 28 March our Lewes Food Banks Easter collection outside Aldi, Tesco, Waitrose.
All day collecting - but nobody does more than a single one hour shift.
Food insecurity is one of the major challenges facing the UK today. According to the Food Foujndation in 2025 over 1 in 10 households (11.3%) are food insecure.
What is food insecruity? Put simply having having to cut back on food or skip meals entirely. Just imagine going without food for a day, or even days at a time. Food insecurity has a deeply damaging impact on individuals and society. Beyond being a social justice issue, food insecurity seriously harms physical and mental health
According to The Trussell Trust the numbers dependent on Food Banks in the UK remains 'extraordinarily high'.The numbers needing weekly food parcels have risen over the last 5 years and is now two and a half times the level seen a decade ago..
The Independent Food Aid Network has identified at least 1,172 independent food banks across the UK.
Lewes alone has three food banks and a community fridge. There is a real danger the existence of Lewes food banks becomes acceptable. No, their existence is entirely unacceptable . But until food insecurity no loiger exists our Lewes Easter Food Banks collection help ensure no household in this town mises a meal over the Easter holidays and can enjoy the Easter treats so many of us take for granted .
Through the day our collectors will provide shoppers with a shopping list of food items. Our request to shoppers is to add just one additional purchase from our list to their shop and hand in to the stall we'll have outside the stores. Added together this amounts to one huge total.

If you can't help please donate every pound donated will be used to fund the items Lewes Food Banks have told us they need over Easter in the greatest number. Click the 'get tickets' button and choose 'donation' we'll then combine these items donors have helped pay for with our collection.
The all-day collection is distributed direct to the three Lewes food banks: Fitzjohns, Landport, Malling plus the Lewes Community Fridge too.
