Before things go sideways, do you know what your options are?
Would you recognize trouble if you found yourself in it?
After the first 5 minutes of a crisis, do you have a plan?
Should you go to the ER, the Urgent Care, or just "Ride this one out?"
Originally designed for a team of global photographers who needed "more than just the basics" to keep themselves safe, OSG's Level 2 - Lay Rescuer Assessment & Decision Making (LRAD) Course builds extensively on the foundations laid in our Level I Community Responder or Level I Convention Rescue.
We pull from some of the best and latest in the Wilderness Medicine, Austere Emergency Care, Urban Prehospital Medicine, and Specialized Event Medical guidelines, data, and experience to give you a unique set of "Software Upgrades" that will take the guesswork out of your next "Should I go to the Hospital?" conversation. Over the course of 2 extended days, you'll get a crash course in the essentials for making the best decisions possible given limited information when faced with a medical emergency or "borderline" decision.
This course was designed to answer the increasing demand for an accessible, short form option that provided the stripped down, concentrated essentials for medical decision making when a more seasoned provider isn't available due to time, money, distance, social factors, or other circumstances. LRAD aims to make the essential basics accessible without requiring the significantly more expensive and protracted commitment of a WFR or EMT course.
Who should take this course?
Individuals who have completed an OSG Level I course (either Convention Rescue or Community Responder) who want to prepare themselves to handle more nuanced assessments, prolonged emergencies, or who may be far from help and have to make difficult decisions about how to handle a medical emergency.
This course is also ideal for individuals who interact regularly with medical professionals or in-hospital environments who want to gain greater awareness and understanding of fundamental principles involved in their care but who are unable to commit to longer courses of study.
Pre-Requisites
Students attending this course must have completed either of OSG's Level I Courses (Convention Rescue or Community Responder) or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and proficiency with an AHA Heartsaver First Aid, CPR, AED certification and a Stop the Bleed certification within the last 24 months from the date of the class. Students will be skills tested on Level I proficiencies on the morning of Day I. Please reach out to [email protected] with any questions about pre-requisites.
Key Course Topics Include
1. Level I Skills Refresher & Validations
2. Types of Facilities, Resources, Capabilities, and How to Pick the Right One.

Class size will be limited to (6) students per class to ensure a focused, in-depth learning experience. Some pre-course work will be assigned in order to ensure that we are maximizing our time together and not just running through "Death by PowerPoint".
Upon completion, students will be provided with a course completion card & certificate, valid for 2 years, as well as hardcopies of study materials and a quick reference kit.
