Giga-Bites Narrative Teams Event Player PackOctober 4th, Giga-bites cafe, Marietta, GA
Battle for the fate of Rest-Auran Depot IV! Each player will build a single 2000 points “normal” Strike Force list. Players will be assigned to either Team Imperium or Team Chaos based on thematic fit and overall balance for two rounds of custom team-based narrative missions.
Details
Check-in at 9am, first round pairings start at 9:30am
2 games, 4 hours each game with synchronized rounds
30 - 45 mins for lunch depending on the timing day of.
Max 24 players (12 v 12)
Missions will all be custom and different for each board.
Models are NOT required to be painted, but it is HIGHLY recommended.
Models must be on the correct base size. Specifically the same size as what is specified in the latest chapter approved. Failure to have a model on the correct base size will result in that model being removed from play.
Rules are valid if released and we have new points before the event starts. FAQ, points, and dataslate changes to be evaluated case by case if they drop near the event.
Lists due in Best Coast Pairings by Wednesday October 1st at midnight. Failure to do so without communication will make everything harder for everyone (your captains need to know your list!). The earlier you submit your list, the earlier we can assign you to a team.
Prepayment for this event is required.
Grudges are not officially allowed, but they are very possible to engineer via the pairings mechanisms we’ll be using.
Teams
The players will be divided into two thematic teams, Imperium (captained by Jonathan Sanders) and Chaos (worse, and captained by Morgan Gladson). We’ll try to put Imperium armies on team Imperium and Chaos players on team Chaos and then use Xenos players to balance out the teams, but some players might need to fall to chaos or be redeemed to make roughly even teams. If you have a strong team preference, please let me know before the event begins.
Everyone on a team is working together to win the event by scoring more Global Victory Points than the enemy team. Every player can earn a single Global Victory Point by winning their game (mostly normal Warhammer 40k scoring mechanics), and some critical turning point battlefields can earn additional Global Victory Points to push forward their team’s success. Players not on the pivotal battlefields will still be eligible for the point gained for a win, and will also compete for a variety of buffs and debuffs that can be used across the event to impact other players (artillery strikes, reinforcements, powers beyond mortal comprehension).
Pairings
To determine which players fight for which battlefields captains will use a simultaneous attacker/defender system. Captains (with player input) will select a battlefield and a player from their team to defend that battlefield. Captains (with player input) will then select two of their players to attack the enemy’s defender. Finally, defenders (with captain input) will select one of the two attackers as their opponent for that round. This process will repeat until everyone is paired onto their respective battlefields.
Missions
TBA, expect them to be significantly different from normal!!!
Turn / Round progression
Because many of the battlefields at this event can have impacts outside of the specific game being played on them, we are going to attempt to keep everyone in the same battle round of 40k (1,2,3,4,5). We are doing this to prevent a single game that progresses quickly from being able to dump 5 battle rounds worth of buffs into another table that is still on battle round 2. You can move freely between turns within the battle round. Once players have finished the current battle round they are encouraged to plan global strategies with their captains or give input to other games going on around them. There will be a round timer running to indicate to players when we would like to be able to progress the next round by.
If this system goes badly and we all hate it, tell me and we’ll scrap it for something else.
Waitlist
We will open up a waitlist once the event is full. Contact me on discord (Dingbat) or at this email if you would like to be put on the list. [email protected] .
Terrain
We will mostly use layouts from the GW tournament companion, but come prepared for boards to have significant modifications.
Every piece of terrain counts as a ruin (even crates or trees)
First floors count as blocking line of sight. Discuss with your opponent or call the TO ahead of the game if it’s unclear.
The small 4x6 footprints count as 2ins high regardless of their actual size. Meaning that units can move over them, but would still have to fully clear the terrain on top
In regards to fighting through ruins we will play it RAW. Meaning you CAN use spacing to prevent charges through walls.
The footprints of terrain will mostly all match GW layouts but due to limitations of our terrain set the ruins on top of them may not match GW’s exact measurement.
Narrative board specific terrain rules will be available in the mission pack and printed out day-of.
Prizes
The eternal glory of victory
The tears of your foes
Trophy of glory for the winning team’s captain
Idol of unending shame for the losing team’s captain

Paint requirements
None, but the game is way cooler if you do it.
Proxies and conversions
Generally acceptable. Must be the right size and clear to your opponent. Example, don’t say that one model has a lascannon when the whole unit is modeled with bolters. Your opponent would have no way to distinguish. Please ask ahead of time if you have any doubt.
Odd numbers and byes
If we end up with an odd number of participants the team that’s down a player will have their captain play. There will be no byes, if you show up to play 2 games, you will play 2 games!

Narrative / Background
Planet - Rest-Auran Depot IV
Planet Status:
Failed Exterminatus maiden world. Attempted recolonization ongoing.
History
During the Great Crusade, a fleet of Night Lords / Ultramarines (conflicting records) discovered Rest-Auran with a host of Eldar Exodites settled upon it. The decision was made that it was better to exterminatus and move on rather than risking a prolonged engagement or drawing in nearby craftworlds. The bombs were dropped but the fleet was drawn off to another engagement before they were able to verify the planet was fully cracked. It wasn’t, but to the best of the imperium’s knowledge all life was wiped out.
Modern Status
500 years ago a colony / sector supply depot was established to attempt to revive the planet and resettle citizens of a nearby world that fell to Tyranids. Terraforming is ongoing and wildly successful. Imperial surveys are unsure how the colonists have managed to make so much progress given their initially meager starting supplies. In addition to the terraforming, an imperial research station has been set up on the space-debris created by the initial exterminatus.
Central Features
Power Source
A large mysterious power source provides an unsettlingly high amount of power for the citizens of Rest-Auran. Planetary leadership instructs all citizens to not worry about it and carry out their duties for the emperor regardless.
Exodite Ruins
Exodite ruins were discovered recently near the main hive cluster. Fortunately the brave PDF shelled it from a distance and then promptly declared victory. Parades were had, medals were issued, an all around good time.
Hive Rest-Auron
The primary settlement on the planet, this hive city has been peacefully growing for roughly 500 years. The settlement exports nearly 80% of all cooking utensils, silverware, flatware, and food processing equipment used in the entire sector.
Research station
Above Rest-Auron is a ring of orbital debris on which the imperium has built an extensive research facility. No one is quite clear on what the research is being conducted on, but the Emperor wouldn’t allow a pointless facility so it must be in some way important.
