In November, we will be reading The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones.
10 years ago, four Indigenous friends from the Blackfeet Nation illegally hunted a herd of elk and killed a pregnant one. Today, the elk returns as a vengeful, angry, and violent shapeshifting spirit known as Elk Head Woman. Her goal is to hunt down and torment the men and their families, who must fight for their lives as the past catches up to them in a deadly way.
This novel blends traditional horror elements with commentary on cultural identity, guilt, and Blackfeet Nation culture.
The Blackfeet Indian Reservation is home to 17,321 members of the Blackfeet Nation, and is one of the 10 largest tribes in the United States. It was established by treaty in 1855 and the reservation is in Northwest Montana (blackfeetnation.com(http://blackfeetnation.com)).
This novel was published in 2020 and won the Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel and the Shirley Jackson Award for Best Novel.
