About this Event

Across all sectors, the business community is struggling to recruit people with the right skills. Business is part of the solution, can make a difference and help shape and develop the skills of their future workforce. Working with schools is a proven way of developing young people’s skills for the jobs of today and tomorrow. However, too many young people are missing out on work experience. Disadvantaged young people are more likely to miss out than others. This matters because high quality work experience, when integrated into a structured careers programme, helps young people get ready for the world of work by: • Increasing awareness of jobs and pathways like apprenticeships. • Building confidence in key skills like speaking and listening. • Reducing the likelihood of a young person becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) at 16 and 18. With small businesses making up over 99% of the business population our campaign aims to engage, encourage and equip them with the information and support they need to open their doors to offer modern workplace experiences to young people in their local area.
