Letterpress Refurbishing and Maintenance Workshop
Join Mitchel Ahern at the Museum of Printing for a hands-on experience in Letterpress Refurbishing and Maintenance!
For hundreds of years letterpress was the way things were printed at scale. The letterpress industry is mostly gone (although holding on in small scale ways such as wedding invitations), but letterpress as an art form, artisanal craft, and a tool of community activism, is increasingly popular. During its heyday so many presses and printing materials were produced that there is much still available today. But how can a developing printer find and pick the right press? Often these presses have sat for decades and need repair and cleaning.
This workshop will help printers find the right press for them, refurbish it for use, and practice ongoing maintenance, and perhaps even be a first step for new Museum of Printing volunteers.
