A miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy during the first 23 weeks. Sadly, around 1 in 8 pregnancies end in miscarriage yet this devastating issue is often little understood or discussed openly. Losing a pregnancy is different for everyone and affects whole families and communities as well as parents.
A leader in women’s health with a special interest in miscarriage, Prof Regan will talk about the experience of miscarriage, moving from the biology and physical experience to the emotional impact. She will be joined by Julianne Boutaleb of Parenthood In Mind who has worked with parents and parents-to-be on various mental health issues including miscarriage for over 20 years.
They will be joined by Asiya Dawood, founder of Asian Miscarriage Hub who will share her experience of miscarriage.
They will discuss several aspects such as:
· Understanding miscarriage and possible causes
· Getting support towards a successful pregnancy after a miscarriage
· Taboos and stigma around miscarriage
· Psychological experiences of miscarriage
· Getting psychological support
