REI started the original #OptOutside a decade ago when they closed stores on Black Friday and encouraged their workers to go hike! This year, Mass Blackout is calling folks to nationwide economic action: "stop online or in-store shopping (except for small businesses), stop work, stop streaming, cancel subscriptions, no digital purchases, remove the regime." They're "targeting the corporate systems that profit from injustice, fuel authoritarianism, and crush worker power." We are also asking folks to bring shelf-stable snacks or drinks to donate to the Houston Food Bank, or you scan the QR code at the event to donate money directly. Our neighbors are struggling; if we can help, we should! Suggested items the Food Bank has requested: granola bars, crackers, trail mix, nuts, dried fruits, water, sports drinks, shelf-stable milk, shelf-stable juice (low sugar).
