Lessons Learned (1.5 LU)

The practice of architecture is an expression of decisions with varying results. We strive for good or great results, but despite our desire for perfection, our efforts sometimes lead to imperfect or insufficiently perfect results. We learn from the successes and non-successes for sure. But it can be argued that what we learn from what does not go as well as it should, are the lessons we take most closely to heart. Those experiences lead us to enhanced professional abilities.

For this event the Small Firm Forum will resurrect a program type that was in the past fundamental to the quality experience of attending the Small Firm Forum. This event will be a non-recorded, in person only, roundtable discussion. We will explore the topic together and all those in attendance can participate in the discussion. That reflects a belief that we all have expertise that can be shared and add to the professional ability of all of us. The topic is Lessons Learned. We will share our experiences of things that did not go as well as we liked and what we learned from the experience.
These experiences derived from our work as architects in small firms. Think of what we all master in some way, sometimes after a stubbed toe here and there: Accounting, Codes, Planning Departments, Construction Observation, Design Techniques, Working with Employees and Consultants, Building Departments, Computers...the list goes on.
Learning from each other, forming professional relationships with our peers, has been a core value of the Small Firm Forum. We continue that effort.
