About this Event
Our training strengthens the capacity of local government, health, community and emergency sectors to understand the relevance of gender stereotypes and inequalities in a disaster context.
- Understand gender and disaster and why violence against women can increase during and after disaster.
- Unpack how gender inequality during and after disaster distinctly impacts women, men and LGBTIQA+ people.
- Learn how applying an inclusive gender-lens can lead to world-leading disaster recovery.

Led by expert trainers and delivered nationally by two of our 50+ expert trainers from every State and Territory. For this session, you'll be guided by Michelle McGolrdrick and Jason Gough.
Michelle McGoldrick (she/her) runs the consultancy business Acclimatize for Life Loddon Mallee and has been a trainer at Gender and Disaster Australia since 2023. Based in Victoria, she brings extensive experience in training and mentoring staff working in high‑risk practice. Her specialist areas include family violence, sexual assault, and disaster planning systems. Michelle previously led a regional project examining the gendered culture of emergency planning across Victoria’s Loddon region and is committed to exploring contemporary issues in gender and disaster, including intersectionality, diversity, and gendered stereotypes in emergency management.
Jason Gough (he/him) is a Police Officer and has been a trainer at Gender and Disaster Australia since 2024. Based in Perth, Western Australia, he brings over two decades of experience across policing, emergency management, and disaster response, with a strong focus on remote and regional contexts. Jason has coordinated disaster response and crisis management activities across Western Australia and is known for his practical, community‑focused leadership. He is also an Emergency Services volunteer with Australian Red Cross and holds a Bachelor of Emergency Management from Charles Sturt University.

What to Expect
- The training will run from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
- You'll receive a link to download and print the Participant Guide in your Eventbrite confirmation email.
- A light lunch will be provided.
