Join Senior curator of Lepidoptera (the butterflies and moths) Alessandro Guisti, on an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the vast insect collections of the Natural History Museum in London.

This event is held on Saturday 26th November 2022 from 2pm - 5pm.

Participants are invited to arrive at the Darwin Centre II Café by the steps where Alessandro will greet you.

Once inside the cocoon you will be given a glimpse of the millions of specimens behind the scenes from the Museum's scientific collections. Then, Alessandro will give a presentation on his work held in the Angela Marmont Centre, with plenty of time for questions and discussion.

Alessandro is the curator of the Hawkmoths (Sphingidae), the Eggars and Lappets (Lasiocampidae) and the Slug Moths (Limacodidae).

Alessandro's work at the Museum involves identifying, transferring and labelling specimens, databasing them, and answering queries about certain species of Lepidoptera. He also looks after visitors to the Museum from other institutions to study a particular group of Lepidoptera. he supervises work experience students and volunteers who offer invaluable help. Occasionally he goes out on fieldwork to collect new specimens and to conferences and workshops to share knowledge and learn new work procedures.
