Lenten Study: Journey from Garden to Cross
Join Pastor Julie and Father Bruce as they lead a Lenten study focused on the seven major Christian virtues and their relationship with the environment. Under the theme #garden2cross, this journey invites participants to reflect on creation and its longing for restoration and balance, much like the virtues we seek in Christ.
While Lent is not typically associated with caring for creation, this season offers a unique opportunity to recognize that all of creation shares in our hope for renewal. Together, we will explore the connection between the garden and the cross of redemption, deepening our understanding of faith and stewardship.
About the Study Material
This study is based on the book by Kathryn Blanchard and Kevin O'Brien. The book is designed to be accessible and engaging, suitable for use in settings ranging from Sunday schools to college campuses. Its scholarship is presented in a way that is easy to digest and encourages thoughtful discussion.
How to Participate
• If you are able to purchase the book, we encourage you to do so and follow along with the readings.
• Scholarships are available for those who need assistance in obtaining the book—please speak with Pastor Julie or Father Bruce for support.
• Do not let the absence of a book keep you from joining; all are welcome to participate and learn together as pilgrim partners on this Lenten journey.
• Information and materials for each session will be shared in advance to ensure everyone can engage fully.
Session Details
• Session 1 will take place on Ash Wednesday, February 18th, at 11:00 AM, at St. Matthew’s.
• Please arrive by 10:50 AM to pick up a light lunch and prepare for the discussion.
• Following each session, a healing Mass will be offered at 12:00 PM.
• The study will alternate locations between St. Paul’s and St. Matthew’s each week.
