Lemur Trails | Eid Journey Across Madagascar

Just a few places on Earth offer such an intense kaleidoscope of nature as Madagascar. Sandstone canyons, limestone karsts, mountains, fertile hills cascading with terraced rice paddies, forests of every kind – wet & rainy, dry, spiny – and a laterite-rich soil that gave the country its nickname of 'Red Island'. With 5000km of coastline, the sea is never very far, turquoise and idyllic in places, dangerous in others. It is the world’s fourth-largest island and its roads are dismal.

The island's signature animal is the lemur of course, but there are many weird and wonderful creatures: the eerie-looking fossa (a cat-like predator), colourful and camouflaged chameleons, oddly shaped insects, vivid frogs, graceful rays and turtles, several species of sharks, and humpback whales during the winter months.Trees and plants are just as impressive with the distinctively shaped baobabs, the fanning ravinala (travellers' palm), the hundreds of orchids or the spiny forests of the desert south.
We have prepared a short but intensive program to West Coast of the island, most representative part, that will allow us cover all of the highlights in one go. Here we go:
DAY 01/ ARRIVAL IN TANA
Arrival, immigration clearance, check in, free time at leisure followed by dinner.
DAY 02/ DAY DRIVE TO ANTSIRABE
Drive south to reach Antsirabe with stops on the way to enjoy the landscape of the highlands, rice terraces, vegetable plantation and traditional Malagasy houses of the high plateau. Overnight in hotel.
DAY 03/ ANTSIRABE - MIANDRIVAZO - RIVER TRIP ON TSIRIBIHINA RIVER
The landscape changes into the dry area with valley and mountains. After breakfast in Miandrivazo, we take a motor boat on a Tsiribihina river, meet the local tribes living in the jungle, that will show us endemic birds and several species of chameleons. In the afternoon we will commence on a gorge of Tsiribihina to see the lemurs in their natural habitat; continue to the waterfall with natural swimming pool for a bath and exploration of the area. This night we will camp at the bank of the river.
DAY 04/ BELO - TSINGY
