Milford native Leila “Lee” Dunbar is one of the top pop culture memorabilia appraisers in the country, with specialties in sports, entertainment, comic and animation art, automobiles and wine. She is also a 30-year veteran of the long running PBS hit television series about appraising (can you guess the name)? A full time appraiser, Lee has valued the collections/estates of Prince, Johnny Cash, Katharine Hepburn, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, David Ortiz, Bobby Orr, Arnold Palmer, Muhammad Ali, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Glenn Close, Jack Nicholson, Gregg Allman, Cher, Meatloaf, Larry Bird and many others.
On April 13 at 6:30 pm, Lee returns to the Milford Town Library to talk about her career highlights, pop culture memorabilia, and appraise items as time allows. Participants may opt to bring in up to 2 items for consideration or just enjoy the talk and seeing other people's stuff. All items for consideration must be dropped off to the library's program room between 5:30 - 6:00 p.m.

About Leila Dunbar:
Lee spent much of her childhood in her father’s Haven St. auto salvage yard, meeting folk with colorful nicknames like “Blonde Bobby”, “Joey One Arm” and “Little Anthony”. In the early 1970’s, her parents Howard and Martha were smitten by old samplers, stoneware and Mickey Mouse. Becoming collectors and then dealers, they handled antique American advertising, toys, folk art, automobiles, motorcycle memorabilia, and locally made Dedham Pottery. At nineteen, Leila ventured to Spain for a year, developing a fondness for flamenco, motor scooters, paella and vintage Feria festival posters. In 1983, she obtained degrees in Journalism and Spanish at the University of North Carolina. Returning home, Lee ran the junkyard for several years before establishing Dunbar’s Gallery with her father Howard out of their former junkyard. At the gallery the Dunbars held numerous absentee auctions in automotive and motorcycle memorabilia, toys, advertising and Halloween memorabilia.
In 1999, Sotheby’s recruited Lee to serve as SVP and Director of its Collectibles Department, where she sold more than $75 million in sports, entertainment memorabilia and collectibles in 9 years, including the estates of Casey Stengel, Pee Wee Reese, Wilt Chamberlain, Katharine Hepburn and Johnny Cash, as well as the collection of Cher. Since 2008 Lee has run her own pop culture valuation business, preparing appraisals for insurance, donation, estate and litigation, with more than 675 appraisals prepared, with a valuation of $3.4 billion.
Since its inception in 1996, Lee has appeared as an appraiser on the long-running PBS hit series Antiques Roadshow, with more than 200 filmed appraisals, specializing in Sports Memorabilia, Collectibles and Toys.
