In September 2019, The Sol Kitchen introduced Charlotte to the first full-time Black Symphony Orchestra for a sold-out concert that merged 90s Hip Hop and R&B with orchestral arrangements. In 2022, that same orchestra returned for a dynamic collaboration with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra that traveled through time—from Bach to Biggie. Now we want to pay tribute to our modern musical legends, so get ready for an out-of-this-world journey through Earth Wind & Fire’s classic catalog with the Urban Art Orchestra. Urban Art Orchestra aka “Detroit’s Orchestra” brings people together in the celebration of Detroit culture through unique renditions of musical heroes like Quincy Jones, J Dilla, Pharrell, Charles Stepney (Earth Wind & Fire) and many more.
Urban Art Orchestra has published 3 internationally acclaimed vinyl record releases, available exclusively through Knmdk Records and is led & conducted by De’Sean Jones, a 2022 Kresge Fellow, 3x Stellars Award winner, 2x NAACP Image Award winner and 2x Grammy-nominated composer.
