About this Event
Legacy String Quartet — An Immersive Evening in the Round
There are spaces that seem made for chamber music — and the soaring Gothic nave of the Cathedral of the Incarnation is one of them.
On the first Friday of May, the Legacy String Quartet performs in the round beneath Gaia, Luke Jerram's breathtaking 20-foot sculpture of our planet, in an evening of beautifully contrasting works. The program moves from the lyrical elegance of Mendelssohn to the rich, brooding romanticism of Borodin, before closing with the heat and drama of Argentine tango — music that feels entirely at home beneath a slowly turning Earth.
Performing in the round means every seat is a good seat, and the combination of intimate chamber music, extraordinary acoustics, and one of Long Island's most stunning sacred spaces promises an evening unlike anything you've experienced before. A wine and cheese reception and time to explore the Gaia installation follow the concert — the perfect way to linger in the space a little longer.
Whether you're a longtime chamber music devotee or simply looking for a genuinely special Friday night, this one is not to be missed.
