Stop by anytime at the public hearing to review displays, proposed plans, and discuss questions with VDOT staff. The meeting will be held in an open-house style format. There will be no formal presentation.
The public can submit comments on the project now using an online survey at https://publicinput.com/leelandroad through Saturday, June 6, 2026.
The proposed project will widen Leeland Road to a three-lane section between Route 694 (Julian Drive) and Route 622 (Walnut Drive), with one travel lane in each direction, and a shared two-way left turn lane in the center of the road.
The proposed plan will also make several improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians:
A 5-foot-wide sidewalk would be built along the east and west sides of Leeland Road between Route 607 (Deacon Road) and Walnut Drive.
A pedestrian crossing equipped with a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon would be installed at the intersection of Walnut Drive, to assist in crossing Leeland Road.
A 5-foot-wide sidewalk would continue along the west side of Leeland Road from Walnut Drive to Route 1950 (Portland Drive).
Bicycle lanes would be extended along Leeland Road from Deacon Road to Portland Drive.
Between Route 624 (Primmer House Road) and the entrance to the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) station, the existing sidewalk will be converted to a 10-foot-wide shared use path.
No changes will be made to an existing privately owned path parallel to Leeland Road between Portland Drive and Primmer House Road, which is owned and maintained by the Leeland Station Homeowners Association.
