Lee Scott
Lee Scott is a rapper, author, producer, and co-founder of record label Blah Records. Hailing from the industrial north western new town of Runcorn by way of Liverpool.
He has been described as 'an integral part of Hip-Hop in Britain' and in early 2020 Red Bull selected Blah Records as one of its 'seven UK-based independent labels worth shouting about'. Media figures have noted Lee's ability to promote his and his label's music through creative limited edition releases and merchandise.
Musically, reviewers have praised his albums for their 'thick layers of peculiarity' with 'contradictory and self depreciating satire'. Anthony Fantano, of The Needle Drop, said of his 2015 release Butter Fly 'it's thought provoking, playful, absurd and cynical while pulling jabs at pop culture' and summarised it as a 'thinking man's hip hop record'.
Lee's debut novel, Swan Songs, was published on 14 December 2021 through Repeater Books.
Production credits include Black Josh, Your Old Droog, SonnyJim, Cult of The Damned, Cool Calm Pete, Heems and more.
Black Josh
Black Josh is a rapper from Manchester, England. Since his first releases in 2013, Josh has worked with various producers and rappers across the UK including other Blah Records artists. He has also been part of the rap groups Cult of the Damned, Levelz and The Mouse Outfit. Writers have variously called him a "Manchester cult hero" and a "lyrical maverick".
Black Josh first started rapping over hip hop beats whilst at college sometime before 2011. His first releases to gain traction came with The Mouse Outfit in 2013, followed by his Black Josh EP. In 2014-15 Josh began to release on Blah Records, starting with the single Paul Scholes. He has since dropped 8 releases on Blah. They have included the 2018 albumYung Sweg Lawd, featuring production from Skepta, and 2020's Mannyfornia. Reviewers praised Mannyfornia as "unapologetically Manchester" and a "cohesive, dynamic and eclectic album.".
In 2019, Josh's releases were selected for inclusion in the British Library's Sound and Moving Image Catalogue alongside other Blah artists.
Support from Blackburns own Blah Records and Cult of The Damned OG veteran and stalwart Bill Shakes!
