Lee Morgan Legacy is a Vancouver-based project that presents Lee Morgan's music faithfully and with reverence. While Lee's music was not flute-centric by any stretch, he did include flute in his later recordings and also recorded with flutist Bobby Humphrey on Blue Note. Additionally, Lee recorded with both Bennie Maupin and Billy Harper on flute; the former on Lee's Live at The Lighthouse recording and the latter on Lee's final Televised recording, on the community access show called "Soul" in early 1972.Imagining Lee would have continued to record with the flute had he lived, the Lee Morgan Legacy began in 2023 in Vancouver as a passion project. This "SEXTET" edition of the band is nominally led by jazz flute devotee/veteran Jeremy Price with a group that features two OG "jazz house" founders Jimi James Fraser on piano and Brad Pearson on bass, along with JUNO AWARD nominee Nick Bracewell on drums. Joining the band for this special sextet show is Nick Leffler, an important emerging voice on saxophones. The collective voice of this group is infused with gospel, blues, boogaloo, and bop, flavours and the band's most recent performances to date generate a spiritual and celebratory gathering of folks ready to have a good time amidst hard times.
