📚 Lecture: "Dostoevsky: Rationalism, Socialism & Orthodox Christianity"

🎤 Speaker: Dr. Dmitrii Kuznetsov

Join us for an intellectually stimulating evening with Dr. Dmitrii Kuznetsov as he critiques rationalism and utilitarianism within the works of Fyodor Dostoevsky. Focusing on key texts such as "Crime and Punishment," "The Brothers Karamazov," and "Notes from Underground," Dr. Kuznetsov will explore the origins of European Rationalist philosophy and its integration into prominent political movements like liberalism and socialism.

In his lecture, he will articulate Dostoevsky’s profound response to the notion of a completely rational and intelligible world, highlighting Russian Orthodox Christianity and the peasant commune as moral alternatives to what he viewed as "the tyranny of rationalism." The session will conclude with a compelling examination of the lasting effects of Dostoevsky’s critique on 20th-century left-wing philosophy.

Dr. Dmitrii Kuznetsov holds a PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures from the University of Southern California and is well-versed in literary, visual, and memory studies. His scholarly work delves into national historiographies and their artistic expressions, particularly in contemporary Russophone literature.

Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with Dostoevsky’s legacy and its relevance today!
