🧠Lecture: "The Weight of Gravity"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Moiya McTier
Gravity keeps our feet on the ground, guides the oceans, and shapes the very structure of the universe—yet scientists still don’t fully understand it. Join astrophysicist and folklorist Dr. Moiya McTier for a fascinating journey through the history and future of this mysterious force.
From Aristotle’s early ideas to Einstein’s revolutionary theories, Dr. McTier will trace how our understanding of gravity has evolved and what questions remain unanswered. You’ll learn how researchers are probing gravity’s secrets using deep space observations and powerful particle colliders, and what these discoveries could mean for our picture of the cosmos.
Based in NYC, Dr. McTier is a Harvard and Columbia graduate who has delivered hundreds of talks worldwide, helped design museum and science center exhibits, and consulted on multiple Disney projects. She brings science to life through her astronomy podcast Pale Blue Pod and her acclaimed book, The Milky Way: An Autobiography of Our Galaxy.
