๐Ÿ“š Lecture: "The DSM and Society: A History of Psychiatry's Bible"

๐ŸŽค Speaker: Dr. Ben Lovett

Join us for an enlightening evening with Dr. Ben Lovett as we delve into the history and impact of psychiatry's cornerstone text, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). In the context of today's conversations about mental health, Dr. Lovett will explore how the criteria for diagnosing disorders like depression and ADHD were developed and the debates surrounding what constitutes a mental disorder.

Some familiar diagnoses, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), are relatively recent additions, while categories like autism have undergone significant evolution across editions of the DSM. Through this lecture, you'll discover how psychiatry has navigated scientific research and social activism in its efforts to accurately reflect and diagnose mental health issues.

Dr. Ben Lovett is a Professor of Psychology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he teaches psychological assessment and the history of psychology. He has authored over 100 publications and provides evidence-based psychotherapy as a licensed psychologist.

Donโ€™t miss this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the DSM's role in society with Dr. Ben Lovett!
