๐ Lecture: "The Astronomy of Astrology"
๐ค Speaker: Dr. Mark Popinchalk
Join us for a fascinating evening with Dr. Mark Popinchalk as he unravels the astronomical foundations behind popular astrological concepts such as star signs, Saturn returns, and retrograde planets. Whether you're a firm believer or a curious skeptic, this lecture will illuminate how Western astrology is deeply rooted in the astronomical measurements devised by the Babylonians over 800 years ago.
Dr. Popinchalk will guide us through the patterns of celestial bodies, including zodiac constellations and planetary motion, using insights from modern science to make sense of these age-old beliefs. You'll discover how Babylonian astronomy continues to influence our culture and how it has shaped our understanding of the cosmos today.
Dr. Mark Popinchalk is a postdoctoral researcher at the American Museum of Natural History and an adjunct professor at NYU. He studies the ages of stars by analyzing their rotational speeds and also hosts the late-night science comedy talk show "Science, Tonight!" In addition to his scientific pursuits, he is an avid ultimate frisbee player and bread maker.
Donโt miss this intriguing exploration of the cosmos and its impact on astrology!
