🧠Lecture: "Spacetime Perception: A Sixth Sense"
🎙️ Speaker: Professor Maulik Parikh
Over the last decade, physicists have made one of the most extraordinary discoveries in the history of science: the direct detection of gravitational waves. These ripples in spacetime have effectively given humankind a brand-new sense with which to perceive the universe, opening a window onto collisions of black holes, the remnants of stellar explosions, and perhaps even the deepest workings of reality itself.
Join theoretical physicist Professor Maulik Parikh as he explains how gravitational waves were discovered, what they reveal about black holes, and why they may be the key to uncovering the ultimate nature of space and time. In clear, engaging language, Professor Parikh will guide us through ideas at the cutting edge of modern physics, from Einstein’s general relativity to the frontiers of quantum gravity.
Professor Parikh is a Professor of Physics at Arizona State University. His research focuses on black holes and quantum gravity. He received his bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and his PhD from Princeton, where he once spent a weekend in Albert Einstein’s house—accompanied by a dog, a cat, a frog, and a snake.
