🎙️ Lecture: Space Movies: What Hollywood Gets Right vs Wrong
👨🏫 Speaker: Dr. Niall Whiteford
Themes: scientific · entertaining · cinematic
"It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs." For decades, astronomy and space exploration have been the backdrop to some of Hollywood's most iconic blockbusters—but how much of the science holds up? In this talk, Dr. Niall Whiteford explores the good, the bad, and the downright ugly science behind famous space movies. From interstellar travel to humans on Mars and alien contact, this lecture will separate fact from fiction. Stick around for the Q&A to find out where your favorite sci-fi flick falls on the accuracy scale!
Dr. Niall Whiteford is a researcher at the American Museum of Natural History and an astrophysicist specializing in exoplanets and their atmospheres. His work focuses on analyzing data from the James Webb Space Telescope to better understand the chemistry, clouds, and weather of distant worlds beyond our solar system.
Don’t miss this chance to learn and connect in a relaxed, engaging atmosphere. 🍻
