🧠Lecture: "Mamdani Is Mayor, Now What? Looking at the Future of NYC"
🎤 Speaker: Professor Christina Greer
Join us for a fascinating evening as Professor Christina Greer unpacks the historic and unprecedented election of Zohran Mamdani as New York City’s newest mayor and what it means for the city’s future. How will this 34-year-old great communicator shape policy and politics as NYC enters the second quarter of the 21st century?
Professor Greer will guide us through pivotal moments in New York’s political history, from Fiorello “the little flower” LaGuardia to “hot” John Lindsay and David Dinkins and his “gorgeous mosaic,” to better understand this current turning point. She’ll explore which past mayors might serve as models—or warnings—for Mamdani’s mayoralty and what comparable eras can teach us about today.
Christina Greer is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Fordham University whose work centers on American politics, Black ethnic politics, campaigns and elections, and public opinion. She is the author of multiple acclaimed books on race, democracy, and Black politics, a weekly columnist for The Amsterdam News, a frequent media commentator, and co-host of the NYC-focused podcast FAQ-NYC.
