🧠Lecture: "Jimi Hendrix in New York: The Making of a Legend"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Tom Rizzuto
Join us for an electrifying evening exploring the pivotal New York years that transformed Jimi Hendrix from an unknown sideman into a rock icon. Before the world knew his name, Hendrix was hustling through gigs, searching for his sound and identity. It was in New York City that he sharpened his craft, forged key relationships, and caught the attention of the music industry—yet this crucial chapter is often left out of his story.
Dr. Tom Rizzuto, a professor of music history, guitar, and media at Molloy University and SUNY Old Westbury, will guide us through this overlooked era. With degrees in music education, musicology, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership for Diverse Learning Communities, Dr. Rizzuto’s work focuses on how music both reflects and drives cultural change.
His research and writing have appeared in Discovery Magazine, History Magazine, Arts Education Policy Review, and on the Rock and Roll Archaeology podcast. A native New Yorker now living on Long Island with his family, he brings local insight to Hendrix’s New York journey.
