📚 Lecture: "A Brief History of Feminism"
🎤 Speaker: Lecturer Alexandra Stamson
Join us for an enlightening evening with Lecturer Alexandra Stamson as she takes us on a comprehensive journey through the history of feminist thought and activism. This lecture will explore the concept of feminism in waves, starting with the suffragists of the first wave who fought for voting rights, and moving on to the second wave's quest for legal and workplace rights.
We’ll then delve into third-wave feminism and the importance of intersectionality, before examining contemporary fourth-wave or post-feminism, including the critical question: "Do we still need feminism?" While traversing this historical landscape, we’ll also address the underlying prejudices present within each wave and the potential pitfalls of viewing "progress" in terms of feminist movements and identity.
Alexandra Stamson is a lecturer and PhD candidate in Philosophy at the University of Connecticut, as well as a public philosopher advocating for social justice. With multiple degrees in Philosophy and Gender Studies, she also teaches at SUNY Purchase and has developed a new theory in feminist epistemology that examines the intersection of identity and understanding.
