About this Event
On the course day, I will be examining six Sylvia Plath poems that feature on the leaving Cert Course. I will be looking at poetic technique and themes used throughout the poems and will compare and contrast the poetry, showing students how to successfully integrate the poetry into an essay. I will offer comprehensive essay structures and will teach the basic techniques of exam essays. I will read aloud and analyse the poems and show you exactly what the examiner is looking for in your essays. It will be a busy and comprehensive session, as we look at the many complex themes that pertain to Plath's work from her personal struggles to her deep passion for writing and the Arts. It is advisable that you have the Leaving Cert Poetry book with you for the session for note taking along with pens and highlighters.
Poems to be covered:
Morning Song & Child
Poppies in July, The Arrival of the Bee-Box & Elm
The Times are Tidy
These poems feature a wide range of themes and techniques that compare and contrast perfectly to one another, offering an abundance of interesting avenues for discussion to both student and examiner alike.
