About this Event
The session will last 45 minutes beginning at 7:30pm and will include:
- Welcome, and progressive muscle relaxation practice, to help your body to relax into the experience
- Breathwork with the choir, to help you feel grounded in the experience and focused on the present
- Sound bathing - listening to the choir sing a beautiful, ever-shifting chord which resonates through the space
- Gentle stretching to finish
Please arrive in time to be settled and ready to begin by 7:30pm.
The venue will provide yoga mats, but if you'd like any extra comforts like blankets or cushions, do bring them with you. You might also want to bring an eye covering and some water. We suggest dressing warmly, because being still for a long time will cool you down. You may want to be sitting, or lie down - it's up to you which you prefer, and you're welcome to move throughout. It's important to be comfortable. The singing will be unamplified, and none of the sounds will be extremely loud.
While this isn't in any way a spiritual or religious practice, it's built on principles of mindfulness, and just from...really loving the experience of being bathed in sound by a choir (something I've had the luck to experience quite a lot!)
Singing, especially with other people, is known to have psychological and physical health benefits (and it's said that when a choir sings together, their heartbeats sometimes sync up), so there will be parts where you can breath with the choir, and choose to join in with the singing if you want to, but this is entirely optional and does not require any level of practice or singing skills.
Expect to come away feeling relaxed phyiscally and mentally - and more ready for sleep too. This will be our first event of this kind, and we're really excited to experience it with you!
NB - if you've had any negative experiences with sound baths in the past, please do get in touch to discuss whether this session will be right for you. We recognise that those struggling with their mental health and those with a tendency to feel overstimulated by sound can find this kind of session difficult. Of course, all attendees are welcome to leave at any point, or to take a break outside and return. Attendees must recognise that engaging in a sound bath session it can involve inherent risks such as accidents, injuries, or property damage. By attending, attendees voluntarily assume all associated risks, and agree to release Leaves Retreats from any liability for claims related to loss, damage, or injury incurred during participation in the sound bath session.
