About this Event
Learning Laguna Docents are trained volunteers who teach the Learning Laguna school program in 2nd-4th grade classrooms throughout the Laguna de Santa Rosa watershed and during student field trips to Laguna preserves. Docents help the children of our community deepen their enthusiasm, appreciation, and knowledge of the Laguna de Santa Rosa ecosystem and their home environment.
Attend orientation to find out if being a Docent is a good fit for you! At the orientation we will provide an overview of the Laguna de Santa Rosa, the work of the Laguna Foundation, the role of a Learning Laguna docent in teaching our specially-designed activities for the classroom and the field. We will also go over all the training course details.
Training takes place on eight consecutive Tuesdays between March 4-April 22. Plus, trainees choose their own dates to shadow the program in action to put all the training materials and practice learning into context.
Upon completion of the training course, a minimum commitment of 20 volunteer hours each spring and each fall is requested. Learning Laguna Docents volunteer year-round, primarily on weekday mornings in September -October and March-May. Docents are part of the Laguna Education Team which includes fun opportunities for continuing education, special outings and social events with fellow education volunteers.
