Join us every Thursday morning and afternoon as we explore everything from garden planning and planting, to pruning and harvesting. Learn about basic gardening skills, the importance of pollinators, and the science of seeds. We’ll even create tasty snacks with ingredients straight from the garden!
All programs are included in general admission and are free for members. Admission can be purchased in advance online or by walk-in at our front desk!
The Learning Garden is generously supported by TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.
Weekly Themes:
July 4: Exploring Dirt
Learn all about soil and seeds, what a plant needs in a garden to grow, and try out different methods to test moisture levels in dirt.
July 11: Bug Hotel
Construct and decorate our garden to be a welcoming place for bugs! Learn why we want to invite insects into the garden and how they help plants grow!
July 18: Garden Friends
Look high and low for wildlife that cohabitate near gardens. Use magnifying glasses to discover patterns found in nature: on bugs, rocks, or branches. Then, try constructing binoculars to see animals in the sky or trees.
July 25: Fossilized Plants
Learn how to identify fossilized plants. Then, try out the different methods of reserving flowers and plants using salt dough or pressing flowers!
August 1: Nature's Art
Discover outdoor symmetry using a mirror, leaf rubbing, or by drawing the natural patterns you see in the world around you!
August 8: Caring for Buds
Learn how to care for your garden by spotting weeds, building barriers against critters who like to snack, watering, and even singing!
August 15: Pollination Power
Learn all about pollinators and how they help gardens grow! Learn about the jobs pollinators do and what they need to stay healthy. Maybe even pretend you are a bee, butterfly, or hummingbird and help pollinate the garden!
August 22: Power of Solar
Learn about how the sun helps gardens grow. Explore the ways that solar power can be harnessed through creative crafts using solar paper.
August 29: Harvest Tea Party
Harvest flowers and leaves from the garden to make a unique tea! Steep it hot or cold and join us for a tasty tea party made of plants we've nurtured all summer.
