About this Event
Learn to Paint with Stephen Purdy!
Most of us enjoy the natural landscape, and sometimes stand in awe of its beauty.
Join Stephen as he teaches and shares what he’s learned to help you make a landscape painting you can be proud of!
This class is based on the process of painting outdoors, in which it is essential to develop a strong composition, designate the appropriate values, and make the colour sparkle with the life of the scene before your eyes. Outside, you have a limited time to capture the scene as the light will change. Inside the studio, this same efficiency will keep your painting fresh.
This class is for everyone. Beginner, Intermediate or Expert. We can all learn from some constructive criticism. The class is structured with demonstrations of each stage of a painting, followed by individual critiques of each stage of the students’ progress. If you are a little uncertain of your ability, don’t be, this class might be a little intense, but that is because painting is really, really, REALLY fun!!!

About the Instructor:
“Armed with brushes and a paint box, reveal the beauty that surrounds us, well enough to make you cry.”
Stephen’s focus in painting is in re-creating the magic of the real world on canvas. Focused on the primary challenge of using paint to represent light, using brushes to craft nature's beautiful shapes, all to create an image that approximates the infinite grandeur of a natural scene. Stephen spends a lot of time outside painting from the source. His intent is to represent a natural scene with as little artifice as possible, reducing a scene to its essential beauty.
Stephen’s teachings focus on the methods and techniques to create a successful painting. Using his experience of the painting qualities of good composition, strong values, mark making and colour, Stephen endeavors to assist the student in developing a successful painting of their own.
